(NASHVILLE, Tenn.) Feb. 23, 2009– Five-time Dove Award-winning, two-time GRAMMY nominated rap duo GRITS received two 2009 GMA Dove Award nominations, announced during a press conference held Friday, Feb. 20, 2009 at Nashville Convention & Visitors Bureau Visitor Information Center. The nominations mark Revolution Art’s first honors as a label.
GRITS was recognized in the category of Rap/Hip Hop Album for Reiterate (2008), the debut project from its new label Revolution Art. The duo’s current radio single, “Beautiful Morning,” was also nominated for Rap/Hip Hop Recorded Song.
“GRITS is nothing but grateful to be a part of the Dove Awards,” says Coffee of GRITS. “It’s truly a blessing to have achieved this on our first project on our own record label, Revolution Art.”
Bonafide agrees, “It’s always humbling to be honored by your peers. We appreciate everyone who is a part of the process, the GMA for its support, and most of all our fans.”
The GMA Dove Awards, gospel music’s biggest night of the year, will be broadcast nationwide live on the Gospel Music Channel from 8 – 10 p.m. (ET/PT) on Thursday, April 23, 2009. For a complete list of this year’s nominees, visit: www.gospelmusic.org.
The highest-grossing rap group in Christian music, with more than 500,000 career sales, GRITS has achieved unprecedented success in its 14-year career, including two GRAMMY nominations, five Dove Awards, a Billboard Music Video award, and song placement on primetime television as well as in multiple major motion pictures. The duo’s eighth studio record, Reiterate, released Sept. 30, 2008. Reiterate boasts guest appearances by CCM favorites Mac Powell of Third Day, Jars of Clay’s Dan Haseltine, Martha Munizzi, and Pigeon John, who is featured on the debut multi-format radio single “Beautiful Morning,” currently at Christian Rock. The album has been hailed by ChristianityToday.com as “the freshest, freest effort that GRITS has released this decade,” while CCMMagazine.com applauded the twosome for its willingness to “colo[r] a little outside the usual lines.” Reiterate also prompted a front page feature on MySpace Music, new music video for “Beautiful Morning,” and major market tour this spring.
